Cooking classes in July – with Ann-Sophie Raemisch and Wilmars Gaerten

24. Jun 2022

Wilmars Gaerten is a special place where Maria Giménez and her team rethink (and above all advance) agriculture. In addition to measures to diversify the landscape or Warré beekeeping, there is the Market Garden, from which the gardening team extracts an enormous amount of flavor from Brandenburg’s sandy soils with minimal tillage. Of course, we also serve their fantastic vegetables in our restaurant.

“We are guided by the laws of beauty.” says Maria – meaning aesthetical values as well as ethical ones. To create something together that is durable and exemplary, that is the goal.

The heart of the site is the castle garden, which has been restored to its former glory by artistic hands over the past 20 years. The rustic chestnuts, copper beeches and robinias, planted 150 years ago by tree fanatic Duke Fritz von Schwerin, the old, lovingly renovated brick buildings and contemporary sculptures that decorate the park create a unique atmosphere that you would not expect to be hidden away in the vast area of Berlin. In the middle of it all sits the Orangery, where you will learn from Ann-Sophie how to cook in an agricultural Nobelhart manner.

You’ve come to the right place if you have ever asked yourself questions like:

  • •  How do I cook intuitively and with an agricultural perspective?
  • •  What essentials should I always have in my pantry?
  • •  How do I recognise really good produce and products?
  • •  And how do I learn cooking based on understanding food instead of recipes?

There will be guided courses in July together with Ann-Sophie Raemisch and Wilmars Gaerten.

You will learn how to prepare a meal from seasonal and local ingredients for yourself and for larger numbers of people. We will discuss what an agroforestry system is, what we mean by “good” agriculture and why we make such a big fuss about it.

This is what you get for your money: After arrival there will be a tour of the gardens. Together we will pick up vegetables from the Market Garden and cook together in the old Orangery located in the castle park, which is part of the site – with food from our Hausgemachtes online shop and from people that are part of our network of producers.
The evening ends with a communal dinner under old plum trees. As a farewell, everyone gets a small gift to take home from our online shop.
