Nobelhart & Schmutzig voted spot 88 out of 100 on the list of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants

The world’s best restaurants — you know the list. On June 12, a jury of almost 1,000 voters from The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awarded Nobelhart & Schmutzig a spot in their rankings, namely: number 88 out of 100.

It is perhaps the most controversial restaurant list around and, like all lists, has its fine print. Every restaurant on the list must be more than just trailblazing in some way. The voters were required to have actually dined there.

We are truly honored to have made the cut. Why?

Things are plenty busy here and we’ve got the freedom to do our thing. But even more importantly: The spotlight is finally shining on Germany, brighter than ever before. Sure, we as a nation now boast three 3-star establishments (Aqua, Atelier and Vendome), not to mention Tim Raue. But what’s interesting to us is that Germany — finally! — can claim a restaurant on the list dedicated to authentic German cuisine. We are far from alone in this effort. We’re joined in spirit by our friends at Einsunternull, Ernst, Essigbrätlein, Forsthaus Strelitz, Horvath, Sosein

just to name a few. Taken together, we are shaping a new generation, influencing how they see and interact with German cuisine.  I believe this is just the beginning, and that Germany will someday represent more than just sausage and soccer.

Did you know Germany is home to the single highest collection of Michelin stars outside of France? Yet until today it has received no international recognition for its own national cuisine.  We now have the opportunity to change that. And that’s what we are working for, and more importantly: why. Our goal remains the same, today and tomorrow – filling your plates with the very best the region has to offer.

Warm regards,

Billy Wagner
