We’ve hosted dinners to celebrate all sorts of drinks. However, there is one class of spirit we’ve sorely neglected thus far: fruit brandy, a.k.a. eau de vie.
On occasion of this year’s Berlin, we’ll finally pay our dues to the rightful rulers of the alcoholic kingdom, for that is what spirits are. Or at least should be – after all, the market is currently dominated by uniformly characterless products defined and held prisoner by
the marketing machine. Products are designed, information is dispensed in carefully measured doses, and all the while the marketing ambassadors sing the praises of small batch and single stories. It’s a mirage, and a scam.
Well, here is the ultimate antidote. Eau de vie, after all, is different. It is guaranteed to be a local product, of and from a region and a set of beliefs. Save the anonymity for
the supermarket. Trust in the craftsmanship of the distiller, the quality and selection of the raw materials, the labor and mash, and the distillation tools and processes.
For our dinner, we’ll be serving you Micha Schäfer’s signature meal alongside a wonderful selection of eaux de vie by two of our favourite distillers, Matthias Sievert of Spiritus Rex and Johannes Kolonko of Destillerie Kolonko.
