Trantris does Berlin

30. Nov 2017

It’s easy for Billy to pinpoint his Eureka moment, when a fundamental part of his understanding of wine fell into place. It came during his visit to Dominik Huber, a former potager from Munich now running the Terroir al Limit estate in the lovely Catalonia district of Priorat. That same weekend happened to bring the young Eichbauers, also from Munich, to Priorat as well. At just under 45 years of age, the father of young Felix Eichbauer had, a few years prior, launched a restaurant unlike any other ever seen in Germany. From the moment it opened, his business would go on to shape not just one, but four generations of restaurateurs and chefs. An institution of which Fritz Eichbauer liked to say: “I could have taken all the money I’ve sunk into Tantris and bought myself a castle. But then where would I have eaten?”

In 2016 the Eichbauers decided to purchase a winegrowing estate they knew and loved in Montalcino. Back in 1994, Francesco Leanza bought a few hectares of land in Tuscany, south of  Montalcino, and planted Brunello there. Some 20 years later he decided to sell to the Eichbauer family. That estate is named Podere Salicutti and has been on Billy Wagner’s radar since his earliest days on the wine scene.

Hans Haas started cooking regionally inspired cuisine at Munich-based Tantris in 1991. We at Nobelhart & Schmutzig are proud to host him and his sous chef Sigi Schelling here in Berlin for one remarkable evening. Sigi and Chef Haas will work with Micha Schäfer and his kitchen team at Nobelhart & Schmutzig on a menu replete with the Hans Haas style, enriched by the old-is-new cuisine of Micha Schäfer.

Please be sure to let us know of any allergies or sensitivities in advance. And, if for reasons all your own, you wish to abstain from beer and wine, we’d be happy to provide quality alcohol-free beverages instead. The evening will take place around our counter and at the great table. Seats will be assigned based on the order payment is received.

Date: Sunday, 25 February 2018 at 7:00 pm
Ten courses with 8 beverages (two wines from the Podere Salicutti estate), single origin coffee and spirits at a price sure to raise Berlin eyebrows: € 255 per head.
