New Year’s Eve 2017/2018

29. Sep 2017

So here’s the deal:

New Year’s Eve costs more. It just does. That’s what happens when even the amateurs are out looking for a good pour. It’s one of the few times of the year when seats are reliably scarce and restaurant owners really have something to toast.

But tried-and-tested ain’t our thing. What better time than the end of the year to pull a few unusual corks. We’re exiling Johannes Schellhorn (our house somm) down to our overfilled wine cellar until he coughs up some of the treasures he’s been hoarding for the past 12 months.  Already in our crosshairs are mature bottles of Jacquesson Champagne, Martin Müllen from the Mosel, and of course Barbacarlo of Lombardy. And you can bet your britches there’ll be a glass or five from the Rhone Valley, Burgundy, the Jura and the Loire…

This will be our third New Year’s Eve. In year one and two we put together a menu that Micha Schäfer ended up scrapping shortly before the event — no big surprise, given that Wagner was demanding something in writing, for New Year’s (!), in August. Schäfer freely admits he has no idea what he’s going to be serving in 2 weeks, let alone in 2 months. So we’ve decided to keep it simple in 2017. The event menu is gone. You can count on getting traditional New Year’s donuts (‘Berliner’) with Katrin’s homemade jam.  Other than that, it’s all in play.

Standard Operating Procedure prevails: A 10-course prix fixe including Brita filtered water. We’ll also be pouring Champagne Jacquesson’s 734 Degorgement Tardif, as well as drinks — 7 in all — that grabbed Johannes by the lapels this year.

€ 255 per person, good time included. But don’t count on toasting the ball drop inside the restaurant. We’re clearing you all out by 11:00 pm. So make sure you’ve already picked out your after-party. We will be seating at 6:30, 7:00, 7:30 and 8:00 pm.

Please let us know in advance of any allergies or sensitivities. Should you for any reason — inconceivable to us, of course — not be drinking alcohol, we would be happy to organize a non-alcoholic beverage option.

Please let us know if you would like us to prepare your Champagne experience (bottle & 2 glasses) “to go,” so that you can ring in the new year in style.

Grand Cru Brut Nature, Champagne Benoit Lahaye, Champagne, France
375 ml for € 28 – 2 glasses included with bottle

Brut Reserve, Champagne Bereche et Fils, Champagne, France
750 ml for € 44 – 2 glasses included with bottle

Seating is extremely limited. We recommend reserving your table early, either by phone at +49 (30) 259 4061 0 or by email at .

We kindly ask for your understanding that all reservations for this event must be paid in advance by bank transfer. Due to the extremely limited seating arrangements, we can only bindingly confirm your reservation once payment is received.

With warmest regards,
