Blackout Dinner’s Second Edition

31. Jan 2020

It all started back in 2016 when the power went out in Copenhagen. Matt Orlando and the team at Amass had 60 guests to feed but no power. Instead of giving up, they leaned in and ended up creating a truly memorable dining experience.

Last year saw Berlin’s first Blackout Dinner and now, it’s almost time for our second edition on Wednesday the 25th of March at 7 pm.

This time, lights and electric stoves won’t just stay off in Berlin and Copenhagen. Blackout Dinner has since blossomed into a movement, with more events happening in Vienna, Zurich, Helsinki, Tirana and Istanbul.

Joining forces with us to explore the idea of a truly unplugged evening will be Tulus LotrekKin DeeCordo, Sophia Rudolph (Ex-Panama, Berlin) and Hoflieferanten, in the magnificent space that is the former heating power plant at Rüdersdorfer Straße 70, 10243 Berlin

This means no electricity in the kitchen (we’ll be working with fire) or overhead for the lights (break out the candles). Nor will there be juice for the amplifiers, speakers and music. And no photographers.

Taking care of your musical needs will be Eren Solak who, like us, will be cooking up things in-situ. (Using a Steinway rather than a spatula.)

There are only 120 seats, so don’t wait too long to book! Please email us as

Earth Hour
Cooking without power means truly getting back to basics. Yet there is something about that process that lends a special aura to the food. We hope to use this evening without electricity to draw attention to the Earth Hour on March 28, 2020 between 8:30 and 9:30 pm local time.

Earth Hour is a global climate initiative that encourages citizens, entire cities and organizations throughout the world to turn off their electric lights for one hour between 8:30 and 9:30 pm local time. It is intended as a signal for governments, legislators and politicians around the world that concrete steps against climate change are needed.

At Panama, Tulus Lotrek, Kin Dee, Cordo, Nobelhart & Schmutzig and Hoflieferanten we challenge ourselves every day to work harder to protect the environment. This includes cutting down on how much waste we produce while cooking, buying our products from local suppliers and reusing water whenever possible. We believe that Earth Hour is an important and effective way to influence our politicians and to encourage companies (both restaurants and others) to work more sustainably.

Each of the aforementioned restaurants will of course all be turning off their lights for an hour on March 28, 2020.
