The French know how to holiday – Just shut everything down for all of August

Our Summer Text – The state of things at Nobelhart & Schmutzig

Our last seating of the summer will be on Saturday, 29 July 2017. First day back: Friday, 1 September 2017. In between: records, books and all the things that we barely get around to once during the rest of the year, let alone twice or three times. And definitely: no work emails.

Not that we’re complaining. We’re packed every night. Madness. It seems you, our guests, can’t get enough of that Nobelhart lovin’.

On the one hand, I’m a bit shocked by it all. On the other, I’m proud as hell. And in particular, proud of the effort my team puts out every night. One big change when we get back: we’re going to be an official training establishment. No, seriously. Pit is going to be our first ‘Azubi’, or trainee. He finished high school and got his Bachelors, but chose cooking school over a Master’s degree. And — no joke — he’s already a rock star.

While the rest of the kitchen crew will be working on their tans, moshing at Wacken, attending weddings in Romania or checking out Sicilian lemons — and Mafiosi — our sommelier will be drinking cold brew. And we don’t mean beer. It’s cold coffee that tastes like tea. You have to try it. It’s juicy, not bitter. And it doesn’t give a quick high like cocaine, but rather gets you woke for hours. It’s out there. Go get some and try it. It’s the trend for 2018 (or 2025 if you live in Munich or Hamburg). And before you know it, summer will be done and we’ll be back. Ring at the door, have a seat at the counter and accept a cup of hot flavored water to cleanse. It’s going to be a filthy evening, you’ll need it.

And if you’re like Wagner and want to ride a serious rush, then try getting a ticket for the Garbicz Festival. A few of us will be there, rubbing elbows with a few of our pals (Cordobar  & Industry Standard)… and pouring some good wine. You read that right, good wine at a festival. ‘Struth!’.

While we won’t be there in August, those of you still haunting Berlin might appreciate some tips on where to eat. There we can help. We’re not afraid to talk about our own favorite bars and restaurants, the kind of places we go to meet people we’d like to sleep with.

Summery greetings,
Billy Wagner
