Azienda Agricola Case Basse with Mauro & Valeria Soldera

29. Aug 2019

It’s been a while since we last gave ourselves over completely to one single winegrowing estate.

It’s time, and mama mia! What an estate we’ve chosen.

It’ll cost you a whopping 830 euros per head to sit in with us, meal and water included. There are precisely 14 seats. Over time we’ve put more than a few special bottles into our secret stash for just this kind of evening. And now they’ve been fetched from their hidey-holes and are sitting on a trolley in our cellar. But at this point we’re fed up with hearing our accountant complain that our inventory value is all out of proportion. There’s an easy fix: pull some corks.

But how did we get here in the first place?

Well, Wagner got asked back in 2017 whether he wanted to give his hand in matrimony in Italy — Tuscany, in fact. He said yes of course, but with one condition: the wedding in lovely Cavriglia in Chianti could take place not on August 22, 2017 as requested. Because on that day we finally had our long-awaited appointment at Azienda Agricola Case Basse. And one simply does not cancel or push off an appointment with Gianfranco Soldera. So the wedding was held before the eyes of the world on August 21 instead. And the newlyweds went to Azienda Agricola the next day, where there were left in awe by the diversity of his range and the estate’s unbelievable attention to detail. There was probably more than a little bit of the joyous intoxication of the previous day at work too.

Have you ever visited a winery? Wagner has been to hundreds of them and thinks he’s got a nose for when they are something special. This estate is one of the remarkable ones and that’s why we invited Mauro and Valeria to come to Berlin. We’re proud to announce that this tasting is the first of its kind in the German-speaking world with the owners of the estate.
