There are breast people and there are leg people. We don’t play favourites – at least not when it comes to Odefey + Toechter chicken, easily the best this side of the Republic. So it is just as well that you won’t have to choose: for our next themed Wednesday, we’ll simply be serving you the entire bird.

What exactly is it that makes Lars Odefey’s chicken so very special? Well, every step of his approach, really – from sourcing slow-maturing, robust breeds of chicken to housing them outside for most of their comparatively long lives (100 days, as opposed to 32 in conventional or 81 in organic farming), in groups no larger than 400 (4,800 organic/30,000 conventional), right up to guaranteeing stress-free slaughter. It is this quality of life (and indeed death) that you can taste.

For our Chicken Wednesday, we’ve selected aromatic, firm-fleshed Bresse Gauloises chickens ranging from 2.2 to 2.7 kilos, which we will be serving whole, Christmas-dinner style, and then carving at the table. This necessitates a small change in modalities: you pay per chicken, not per person. One chicken is 295 Euros, for a party of three or four people.  If you come with three guests it is 98.33 Euros per person and if you come with four guests 73.75 Euro per person – And if that isn’t enough, just order another one!) If there are only two of you, worry not – be sure to let us in advance and we’ll try our best to seat you with another couple. Sharing is caring!

Each chicken comes with a side of bread dumplings in cream sauce, grilled onion with rose and salad with chives as well as a verbena tart with charcoal for dessert. Of course, you’re more than welcome to have your fill of other dishes from our current menu, for example a Florian Domberger Brotzeit or fresh strawberries from the Juliane Winkler’s and Jens Wylegalla garden.
